Yippee, They Made It!

I can take down my Christmas decorations tomorrow.  It was difficult this year to get into Christmas decorating which means I never strung Christmas lights inside my house like I usually do. I did put up my pre-lit Christmas tree and plugged it in but  I did not put any ornaments on the tree except for the Angel on top.  The Christmas spirit did not show up for me this year, too much dark in the world right now.  I guess you could say I had a Blue Christmas without it.

Y. M. C. A.

This is lovely and at the same time so bittersweet. Thinking of all the young men who died in the Aids epidemic of the 1980s and 1990s.

Just as bittersweet, the original Village People version.

Love And Mercy

I was sittin' in a crummy movie with my hands on my chin
Oh the violence that occurs seems like we never win

Love and mercy that's what you need tonight
So, love and mercy to you and your friends tonight

I was lyin' in my room and the news came on T.V.
A lotta people out there hurtin' and it really scares me

Love and mercy that's what you need tonight
So, love and mercy to you and your friends tonight

I was standin' in a bar and watchin' all the people there
Oh the lonliness in this world well it's just not fair

Hey love and mercy that's what you need tonight
So, love and mercy to you and your friends tonight

Love and mercy that's what you need tonight
Love and mercy tonight

Love and mercy

Glenn Miller's recording of Chattanooga Choo Choo becomes the first record to be certified as a Gold Record after 1,200,000 copies are sold.

Glenn Miller (on right) being presented with a Gold Record for Chattanooga Choo Choo by an unknown RCA executive. The man on the far left is CBS sports announcer Paul Douglas who would go on to a Hollywood acting career. He would star in movies with Linda Darnell, Barbara Stanwyck, Judy Holiday, Marilyn Monroe, and Janet Leigh.

Dumb Ways to Die

My newest most favorite song.

Set fire to your hair
Poke a stick at a grizzly bear
Eat medicine that's out of date
Use your private parts as piranha bait

Dumb ways to die
So many dumb ways to die
Dumb ways to di-ie-ie
So many dumb ways to die

Get your toast out with a fork
Do your own electrical work
Teach yourself how to fly
Eat a two-week-old un-refrigerated pie

Dumb ways to die
So many dumb ways to die
Dumb ways to di-ie-ie
So many dumb ways to die

Invite a psycho-killer inside
Scratch a drug dealer's brand new ride
Take your helmet off in outer space
Use a clothes dryer as a hiding place

Dumb ways to die
So many dumb ways to die
Dumb ways to di-ie-ie
So many dumb ways to die

Keep a rattlesnake as a pet
Sell both your kidneys on the Internet
Eat a tube of superglue
I wonder, what's this red button do?

Dumb ways to die
So many dumb ways to die
Dumb ways to di-ie-ie
So many dumb ways to die

Dress up like a moose during hunting season
Disturb a nest of wasps for no good reason

Stand on the edge of a train station platform
Drive around the boom gates at a level crossing
Run across the tracks between the platforms
They may not rhyme but they're quite possibly

The dumbest ways to die
The dumbest ways to die
The dumbest ways to di-ie-ie-ie
So many dumb
So many dumb ways to die

Be safe around trains... a message from Metro

Dance, Dance, Dance

October 9, 1964, The Beach Boys record Dance, Dance, Dance with Glenn Campbell playing lead guitar. When released it reaches number eight on Billboard's Top Forty chart.

Carl Wilson of The Beach Boys with Glenn Campbell.

After six hours of school I've had enough for the day
I hit the radio dial and turn it up all the way

I gotta dance (dance dance dance now the beat's really hot) right on the spot
(Dance dance dance right there on the spot)
The beat's really hot
(Dance dance dance now the beat's really hot)
Dance (dance) dance (dance) dance (dance) yeah!

When I feel put down I try to shake it off quick
With my chick by my side the radio does the trick

I gotta dance (dance dance dance now the beat's really hot) right on the spot
(Dance dance dance right there on the spot)
The beat's really hot
(Dance dance dance now the beat's really hot)
Dance (dance) dance (dance) dance (dance) yeah!

Oh Right!

At a weekend dance we like to show up late
I play it cool when it's slow and jump it when it's fast

I gotta dance (dance dance dance now the beat's really hot) right on the spot
(Dance dance dance right there on the spot)
The beat's really hot
(Dance dance dance now the beat's really hot)
Dance (dance) dance (dance) dance (dance) yeah!

(Dance dance dance now the beat's really hot)
(Dance dance dance right there on the spot)
(Dance dance dance now the beat's really hot)
Dance (dance) dance (dance) dance (dance) yeah!

(Dance dance dance now the beat's really hot)
(Dance dance dance right there on the spot)

Music Is the Soundtrack Of Your Life

-Dick Clark

Fifty-seven years ago today the ABC television network began broadcasting American Bandstand. It was a big part of my preteen and teen years.  Dick Clark had everyone on his show and in this clip from 1967 we have Jefferson Airplane.   I find the interview questions Dick Clark asks after Grace Slick finishes singing to be both amusing and condescending.

This Is Playing In My Head This Morning

Earth, Wind & Fire

Do you remember?
The 21st night of September?
Love was changing the minds of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away

Our hearts were ringing
In the key that our souls were singing.
As we danced in the night,
Remember how the stars stole the night away

Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day

Ba duda, ba duda, ba duda, badu
Ba duda, badu, ba duda, badu
Ba duda, badu, ba duda

My thoughts are with you
Holding hands with your heart to see you
Only blue talk and love,
Remember how we knew love was here to stay

Now December found the love we shared in September.
Only blue talk and love,
Remember the true love we share today

Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Ba de

May Is Almost Over

This has been a hard Spring for me.   Not only  have I suffered from my yearly allergies in March and April but this year we can add the lack of sun in May.   Officially there has been only 3 days without rain (Statistic only good up to May 24th. ) and I don't know how many mornings I woke up later that I usually do because my body thought it was still very early since it was so dark outside.  My body clock has been so out of whack I felt sleepy most days.

Well, all that seems to be ending because the last two mornings I've awoken at around 5:30 AM due the sunlight flooding my bedroom.  Nothing like a bright, bright, sunshiny day.

-Johnny Nash

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind

It's gonna be a bright

(bright)
Bright
(bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I've been prayin' for

It's gonna be a bright

(bright),
Bright
(bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

Look all around, there's nothin' but blue skies
Look straight ahead, nothin' but blue skies

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind

It's gonna be a bright

(bright)
Bright
(bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

Feel Like It's Raining All Over The World

-Brook Benton

Hoverin' by my suitcase
Tryin' to find a warm place
to spend the night
Heavy rain fallin', s
Seems I hear your voice callin'
"It's all right"

A rainy night in Georgia
A rainy night in Georgia
It seems like it's rainin' all over the world
I feel like it's rainin' all over the world

Neon signs a-flashin'
Taxi cabs and buses passin'
Through the night
A distant moanin' of a train
Seems to play a sad refrain
To the night

A rainy night in Georgia
Such a rainy night in Georgia
Lord, I believe it's rainin' all over the world
I feel like it's rainin' all over the world

How many times I wondered
It still comes out the same
No matter how you look at it or think of it
It's life and you just got to play the game

I find me a place in a box car
So I take my guitar
To pass some time
Late at night when it's hard to rest
I hold your picture to my chest
And I feel fine

But it's a rainy night in Georgia
Baby, it's a rainy night in Georgia
I feel it's rainin' all over the world
Kinda lonely now and it's rainin' all over the world

Oh, have you ever been lonely, people?
And you feel that it was rainin' all over this man's world
You're talking 'bout rainin', rainin', rainin',
Rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin'
Rainin', rainin' rainin', rainin',
Rainin' rainin' rainin' over the world
I said now, rainin', rainin' rainin'

Mama Said There'll Be Days Like This

Beautiful, beautiful day. I gave the dogs a bath and am now on the front porch brushing them out with Count Basie's recording of One O'clock Jump playing on the stereo.

Summertime Is Here

Ridin' 'round town with all the windows down
Eight track playin' all your fav'rite sounds
The rhythm of the bongos fill the park
The street musicians tryin' to get a start

'Cause it's summer
Summer time is here
Yes it's summer
My time of year
Yes it's summer
My time of year

Stretched out on a blanket in the sand
Kids of all ages diggin' Disneyland
Rappin' on the C.B. radio in your van
We'll give a big "ten four" to the truckin' man

'Cause it's summer
Summer time is here
Yes it's summer
My time of year
Yes it's summer
My time of year

Young boys playin' stick ball in the street
Fire hydrants help to beat the heat
Old man feeding pigeons in the square
Nighttime finds young lovers walking there

'Cause it's summer
Summer time is here
Yes it's summer
My time of year
Yes it's summer
My time of year

In Atlantic City or out in Malibu
Or any where between, I'm telling you
When you feel those balmy breezes on your face
Summer time is the best time any place

'Cause it's summer
Summer time is here
Yes it's summer
My time of year
Yes it's summer
My time of year

I Thought We Were NOT In Kansas Anymore

The fourth day of winds has got me feeling this way.

-Peter Tosh

If you wanna live
Treat me good
If you wanna live, live
I beg you treat me good

I'm like a walking razor
Don't you watch my size
I'm dangerous, said I'm dangerous

I'm like a walking razor
Don't you watch my size
I'm dangerous, dangerous

If you are a bully
Treat me good
If you are a bully, a bully
I beg you treat me good

I'm like a stepping razor
Don't you watch my size
I'm dangerous, dangerous

I'm like a stepping razor
Don't you watch my size
I'm dangerous, dangerous

If you are a chucky
Nobody chucky from me
If you are a chucky, a chucky
Nobody chuck from me, Yea

I'm like a stepping, walking, cutting razor
Don't you watch my size
I'm dangerous, dangerous

I'm like a stepping razor
Don't you watch my size
I'm dangerous, dangerous

If you eat asphalt
Better treat me good
If you drink lead soup
You better treat me good

I'm like a stepping razor
Don't you watch my size
I'm dangerous, dangerous

I'm like a stepping razor
Don't you watch my size
I'm dangerous, dangerous

If you are bull bukka
Nobody buk from me
If you are duppy
Move away from me

I'm like a stepping razor
Don't you watch my size
I'm dangerous, dangerous

I'm like a stepping, walking
I'm dangerous, dangerous

If you wanna live
Treat me good
Warning you if you wanna live
You better treat me good

I'm like a stepping, walking, cutting, flicking,
jumping,chopping, walking
I'm dangerous, I'm dangerous

I'm like a stepping, jumping, flicking, bumping, boring
I'm dangerous, I'm dangerous

If you drink, mortal
Treat me good
And if you eat, brick
Treat me good

I'm like a flashing laser and a rolling thunder
I'm dangerous, I'm dangerous

I'm like a stepping razor
Don't you watch my size
I'm dangerous, dangerous

(Talking)

Treat me good
If you wanna live
You better treat me good

(Talking)

If you wanna live
Treat me good
You could a drink lead soup
I'm dangerous
You could a eat asphalt

You could a eat brick-crackers
I'm dangerous.........
