A while ago my husband and I found this bench in a thrift store and bought it. My belief that it had been made out of an old bed headboard and footboard was confirmed by a neighbor who is also a furniture maker. He believes the back of the bench was made from the headboard and the sides were made from the bed footboard. He also said he thought the bench seat was made from another piece of wood.
We bought the bench to replace the old bench we had in the entryway to our house. That one was functional but only allowed one and a half people sit on it at the same time and was not really big enough to hold everything we needed it to hold.
So we bought some new hardware and came up with this.
A whole lot nicer and more usable.
The Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela is a centuries old trek across northern Spain done by following "The Camino de Santiago", the road to Santiago. Before February of 2001 I had not heard of "The Camino" nor of the Pilgrimage. By the end of October of that year I was in Santiago after completing the walk myself. I thought that when I reached Santiago my journey was over but I see now that my journey started way before I got to Spain and still has not ended.

Sunshine And Rainbows
The house across the street from me is for sale. This happened the other night while someone looking at the house was driving away. Is it a sign? Did they miss it?

Rocky Mountain High
Tis the land where the columbines grow,
Overlooking the plains far below,
While the cool summer breeze in the evergreen trees
Softly sings where the columbines grow-Where the Columbines Grow by A.J. Fynn (First Colorado State Song)
We were up in the mountains last weekend and were delighted to find the state flower, Rocky Mountain Columbine, in bloom.

| I've always thought Columbines look like starbursts or comets shooting across the sky. |

A Doggie Dog World
On one of our twice a day walks Belle discovered that sometimes there are bunnies hiding under the parked cars in the neighborhood. Since the word sometimes is not in her vocabulary this means she has to look under every single parked car on every one of our walks.
Our walks take a little longer now.

Sea Queen
The city of Loveland, Colorado has two foundries and metal sculptures scattered all over town. "Iscariot" by Trace O'Connor is one of the newer ones. If I had $95,000 to spare (and the space for it) I would buy this in a heartbeat.
Loveland Reporter-Herald article about the installation of the sculpture.

I Quit My Book Club Yesterday
Prejudice is the child of ignorance.
-William Hazlitt
Re: August book club meeting
I put this off too long and I apologize in advance for waiting until today to spring this on all of you since I am scheduled to lead the discussion for The Art Forger at the next meeting. I have decided to resign from the book club because of the several anti Semitic remarks I've heard during past book club meetings. I feel if I stayed in the book club any longer I would be condoning the intolerance expressed by these remarks and, frankly, my mother taught me better. I will miss book club and I am sorry to leave but this is something that I cannot let slide.

It's Miller Time
We are being inundated with Miller moths right now. Every morning when I open either the patio screen or the front door screen at least four Millers go for my face. Mid-morning I stepped on the front porch and found this little guy huddled in the corner of the left sidelight.
This is a Sphinx Moth (aka Hawk moth) and looks huge compared to a Miller moth. Its kind of cool.
