The Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela is a centuries old trek across northern Spain done by following "The Camino de Santiago", the road to Santiago. Before February of 2001 I had not heard of "The Camino" nor of the Pilgrimage. By the end of October of that year I was in Santiago after completing the walk myself. I thought that when I reached Santiago my journey was over but I see now that my journey started way before I got to Spain and still has not ended.

Light Shadows 13
Run, run Rudolph, Santa's got to make it to town,

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
-Bing Crosby
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Everywhere you go
Take a look in the five-and-ten
Glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Toys in every store
But the prettiest sight to see
Is the holly that will be
On your own front door.
A pair of Hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots
Is the wish of Barney and Ben
Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again.
(It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Everywhere you go)
There's a tree in the Grand Hotel
One in the park as well
The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow.
(It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas)
Soon the bells will start
And the thing that will make them ring
Is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Toys in every store
But the prettiest sight to see
Is the holly that will be
On your own front door.
Sure it's Christmas once more.

Tchotcheke, Knickknack Or Kitsch?
I saw this little beauty at the Goodwill Store up in Loveland. It was about six inches long and very heavy. It portrays a Native American Indian sitting in a birch bark canoe along with a wolf and a Bald Eagle. The trifecta of white society's romantic view of Native Americans. Noble savages more in touch with nature- represented by the wolf- and having a purer spirituality-represented by the eagle- than we baser humans. I found it tacky enough to consider buying but when I turned it over it had Made In China written of the bottom so I decided to give it a pass. Plus it was so damned heavy I did not want to carry it around and risk breaking it.

Mosaic Theory
A method of analysis used by security analysts to gather information about a corporation. Mosaic theory involves collecting public, non-public and non-material information about a company in order to determine the underlying value of the company's securities and to enable the analyst to make recommendations to clients based on that information.

I guess it works but where could it lead? The real question is where shouldn't it lead? Big brother is already spying on us although Microsoft seems to be doing something to counteract that.

In advertising this is known as data-mining. Does it work?
The New York Times ran a story last year about how a man angrily confronted a Target stor manager to complain that the company was sending his teenage daughter coupons for baby goods. Were they trying to encourage her to get pregnant? Nope. Target's data-mining operation had found a strong correlation between purchases of about 24 items- scent free lotions, certain nutritional supplements, and so on- and different stages of pregnancy. The teenager's purchases had fit the pattern. The teenager's father apologized to Target a few days later, when it turned out that his daughter was, in fact, pregnant.

How To Make Vases Out Of Empty Bottles Of Tequila
Tequila by The Champs
1. Drink all or have someone drink all the Tequila.
2. Start boiling water in a kettle.
3. Remove labels by:
a. Rinsing out empty bottle and then filling it with hot water from the kitchen faucet. This heats up the bottle and helps keep the glass from cracking when you perform step c.
b. Pour hot water out of bottle.
c. Pour boiling water into bottle.
d. Let bottle sit for maybe five minutes and then gently pull a corner of the label to see if it can be removed cleanly. If not wait a few minutes more and try again.
Ta-da! Beautiful flower vases.

All I Need Is The Air That I Breathe
Yesterday morning we had a cleaning company here vacuuming out the air ducts. I've been wanting to do it since we moved in but my husband had been hesitant to do it. I was sure there was drywall dust and who knew what else in the ducts from the remodeling that had been done to the basement by the previous owners. I told him I was tired of having to clean the thin layer of dust that appeared on everything and the bouts of sneezing I suffered from whenever the furnace turned on. He admitted it was probably a good idea but the main reason he was reluctant to do so was because it didn't know of a reliable company. After some research he finally found a company who seemed trustworthy and set-up an appointment.
It took about 3 hours and my husband like the fact that the man he hired told him he did not mind if my husband followed him around, observed what he was doing, and asked questions. When they finished I asked them if the dirt level in our ducts were considered light, average, heavy or "Oh, My God!" The man got a pained look on his face and said, "Trust me, you don't want to know what 'Oh, My God!' is."
I kind of did but I was afraid to ask him. As they say, you can't unring a bell.
Our ducts were average and according to him we would not have to have the ducts cleaned again for another 5 to 7 years no matter what any other duct cleaning service told us. If you start seeing dust on everything in a year or two it is probably means the dirt in your carpets getting into the air when you vacuum. He said the way to keep this dust down is to turn on the air conditioner/heating fan when you do vacuum. This will draw the dust into the return air vents and then into the a/c-furnace filter. You make have to change the furnace filter a bit more often but it's still a cheap way to keep the air inside your house cleaner. A good tip, wouldn't you say?
