The Supremes- Buttered Popcorn

Back at the beginning of The Supremes career this record was the second recording released by Barry Gordy's under the Tamla label. This record includes original Supremes member Barbara Martin singing background along with Diana Ross and Mary Wilson. This is the only recording released with Florence Ballard singing lead. She was only eighteen years old at the time and had a voice that should have made her a star if things had gone differently.

Gordy had the record pulled because he thought the sound was too raw and had another version released but then decided the song lyrics were too sexy and stopped promoting it altogether. He wanted to make The Supremes more commercial by giving them more of a Pop sound. Buttered Popcorn was a hit in Detroit but did not make the national charts.
